The Story Behind Stellar Leaf
Crafting broadcast environments that inspire and engage since 2009
Founded on a Passion for Visual Storytelling
Stellar Leaf began in a small warehouse in Brisbane's Fortitude Valley, where a group of theatre designers and broadcast technicians shared a common frustration: television sets in Australia often felt generic, borrowed from international templates rather than reflecting the unique character of local productions.
We set out to change that. Starting with a single news desk redesign for a regional broadcaster, we built our reputation on creating sets that felt purposeful, that enhanced the stories being told rather than simply providing a backdrop.
Today, our work appears on screens across Australia and the Asia-Pacific region, but our approach remains the same: listen carefully, design thoughtfully, and execute flawlessly.
What Guides Our Work
Collaborative Process
Great sets emerge from genuine partnership. We work alongside your production team, not in isolation, ensuring every design decision serves your programme's needs.
Technical Excellence
Beauty that doesn't function is merely decoration. Our designs account for camera movements, lighting requirements, and the practical demands of daily production.
Sustainable Practice
We actively seek materials and construction methods that minimise environmental impact without compromising on quality or longevity.
Budget Integrity
We respect the financial realities of television production. Our proposals are honest, our timelines realistic, and we deliver what we promise.
The People Behind the Sets
Our team brings together diverse expertise: scenic designers who trained in theatre, architects who understand spatial dynamics, graphic artists who think in broadcast resolution, and project managers who keep complex productions on track.
What unites us is a genuine enthusiasm for the craft. We're the people who notice the lighting rig in the background of a talk show, who appreciate a well-designed anchor desk, who understand why certain colours render differently on camera.
This collective knowledge means we anticipate challenges before they arise and find creative solutions that serve both aesthetic vision and practical reality.
Our Design Philosophy
Television is an intimate medium. Viewers invite programmes into their homes, their commutes, their daily routines. The sets we design become part of that relationship, even if subconsciously.
This is why we approach each project not as a construction exercise but as a communication challenge. What should viewers feel when they see this space? What does it say about the programme's values? How does it establish trust, convey energy, or create calm?
We believe that thoughtful set design can elevate ordinary programming into something memorable. It's not about extravagance or spectacle—it's about creating environments where stories come alive and presenters feel confident.
